FBI Glossary of Slang Words Linked to “Extremism”

Posted By Peter Coyne | 2023-04-14 08:37:00
  • Some of terms listed include “Red Pill”, which originally comes from the movie The Matrix, “Based”, which is a term commonly used to mean something that is “agreeable and cool”, and even “LARPing”, meaning “Live Action Role Play.”

The FBI have flagged the terms as an indication of “Involuntary Celibate Violent Extremism” or “Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremism.”

  • Involuntary celibates, or “incels”, are described as possibly seeking to “commit violence in support of their beliefs that society unjustly denies them sexual or romantic attention.”
  • The assessment notes that “while most incels do not engage in violence” some have been involved in “at least five lethal attacks in the United States and Canada.”

Many of the terms mentioned in the FBI’s list of incel terminology are either widely used across the internet or innocuous in nature.
