The Biden administration is preparing to instruct Customs and Border Protection to release migrants into the U.S. without court dates or tracking ability.

• • This comes in response to over 11,000 migrants being caught crossing the southern border on Tuesday.

The new policy would give migrants a notice to report to an ICE office, but not enroll them in the tracking program.

• • The shift is due to unprecedented daily border apprehensions, which are already surpassing DHS’s predictions for post-Covid influxes.

The Big Picture: Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz estimates that up to 65,000 migrants are waiting to enter the U.S. in northern Mexico.
