DHS Give ‘Risk Scores’ to Social Media Users According to Documents

The Department of Homeland Security worked with the University of Alabama at Birmingham to design methods for assigning “risk scores” to potential pro-terrorists accounts on social media.

  • “Night Fury”, the assigned name of the project, looked to automate the identification process and document performance measures and metrics.

🇨🇳 China uses a ‘social credit’ system rating its citizens on financial creditworthiness, tracks compliance and legal violations, and more.

  • While Night Fury was canned in 2019, it shows that the DHS is looking at ways to better track and monitor US citizens similar to China’s social credit system.
